Description
These paintings are part of a series of six works created for McLaren’s “Driven by
Change” project. The goal was to capture the spirit of my hometown through colors
associated with the McLaren team, while expressing the dynamics, speed, and energy of
Formula 1 through artistic language.
Description of the Paintings
The first painting features symbols of Baku: the Maiden Tower, historic buildings, oil rigs, and the city’s distinctive
architecture. Seagulls in the sky evoke a sense of freedom and movement, like the wind bringing change. In this
composition, I merged modern Baku with the old city, illustrating how contemporary life and traditions intertwine within
the same space.
The second painting is filled with life and symbolism. At the center of the composition stands a pomegranate
tree, a symbol of prosperity, strength, and energy. Karabakh horses, galloping through the city streets, represent
freedom, power, and Azerbaijan’s cultural heritage. They embody rapid motion forward, the dynamism of life, and a
deep connection to history. In the foreground, a carpet motif references national craftsmanship, creating a meaningful
dialogue between tradition and architecture.
These works are painted on textile, which enhances their unique texture and makes each detail even more
expressive. The project began with sketches on paper, developed at the request of the marketing team. After video call
discussions and the approval of the concept, work on the final paintings commenced.
The series was showcased at Hilton Baku during Formula 1 and later exhibited in Dubai, Baku, and Prague.
These paintings have become more than just works of art – they symbolize a cultural bridge between tradition and
modernity, speed and history, national motifs and international dynamics.
As part of the Driven by Change project in April 2023, I combined the imagery of Baku and McLaren racing,
using various batik techniques on cotton. My palette included only two main McLaren colors – sky blue and papaya,
creating unique artworks that merge cultural heritage and the world of speed.
